1970s Vintage Clothing
Post by : admin on February 12th, 2010
The 1970s can be remembered for some wonderful fashion from highly talented designers such as Ossie Clark (Celia Birtwell), Vivienne Westwood and labels from Biba and Bus Stop. The 70s were a time of bold prints and disco fever but also a time of some amazing styles that is often overlooked today.
Clark designed costumes for Glam rock bands, Eddie Murphy and Queen and probably the best known designer of that period. His sexy dresses are very desirable today and the best ones fetch hundreds of pounds. Look out for Ossie Clark original labeled sexy maxi dresses as the Radley label items are worth considerably less.
Other fine 70s vintage fashion you can find are sports wear, satin and denim flares and a growing collection of flight bags from 70s airlines such as Britsh Airways, Pan Am and Luthansa. Kaftan appeared in the late 70s and were influenced by some funky Indian gurus. Rock band tour t shirts also started to appear in abundence in the 1970s so it was a real era of change just like the 60s. Buy some real original vintage fashion!
The Punk scene with Westwood leading the fashion set charge become well known all over the UK in late 1970s where she and Malcolm McLaren opened a shop called Sex in London.

For many vintage enthusiasts the 60s are the best moment in time where fashion and new opportunites met head on to create a wonderful explosion of freedom and forward thinking - this was represented in the wacky and wonderful designs of that period.
The 1950s, in terms of clothing were all about looking your best. For teenagers in America prom dresses were big and glamorous and the movie star of that era was Marilyn Monroe and this famous movie star had Ceil Chapman as her clothes designer. Chapman's clothes are available to buy on eBay at some very good prices.
If you love to accessorise then vintage bags are the number one way to add something sepcial to your look without having to spend the earth. In the 1950s Kelly bags (named after Grace Kelly) were the in-thing for women who loved to follow their Hollywood idols.
If Jeans float your boat then buying vintage jeans is fast, easy and great fun! Probably the most famous brand of jeans is Levi. Vintage Levi Jeans are highly collectable and they really started to get popular in the 50s which also produces the fab Capri pants which were 3/4 length trousers.
Fashionistas are turning to a vintage coat because they are often made of higher quality materials, wash better and of course, simply look divine because it would be very rare to find two vintage coats the same from a top quality designer such as Mary Quant, Dior or Valentino.
There are literally hundreds of Vintage tops available to buy on the internet at many vintage shops but eBay is the best in terms of choice. The 50s gave us elegant silk and lace blouses and then of course the 60s was full of balloon sleeves and the first glimpses of cropped tops to match the famous hot pants.
You can find a good pair of vintage shoes on eBay and you would probably be surprsied to learn that many vintage or retro shoes are in very good condition, almost new like. Luckily, there are many different styles of Womens and Mens vintage shoes that are available to buy in sizes of 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9.
Often the finishing touch to a stylish outfit there is plenty of choice when choosing a vintage hat. From the gorgeous feathered hats of the 1940s and 1950s to the plastic and man made syntheic hats of the 60s that were both quirky and colourful.
An advantage that vintage clothes has over main stream fashion is that you can mix and match clothing from different designers, eras and styles to create that ultra trendy look. Vintage skirts are no different and with brilliant styles as the Maxi, Miniskirt, Flowy, Pencil, Printed and Denim you are sure to buy a great lookinng vintage skirt at a good price.
